Diamond Daydreams
The stuff of dreams is a cloudy haze–that is, until one comes true. Take a trip up north for a series of stories from six women and their trials of love, loss and life in Hokkaido. Kyoko is an aspiring young filmmaker. She has begun to lose her touch for the intimate world around her; and unfortunately, that is exactly where a true master of cinema draws their inspiration.

The main character Atsuko Akanegi is a very lively girl who was born and raised in Hakodate, Hokkaido. She has been helping her mother managing the family business “Fresh Fish Akanegi” ever since her father passed away. One day she makes a delivery to Jinguji Hotel, a long-established hotel managed by Minoru Jinguji. Minoru is the son of the Jinguji family, who’s an heir to this hotel. The conversation between Minoru and Atsuko reveals there has been some kind of arrangement.

On a rainy night, Atsuko shows up at the front door of Kurata’s apartment. Atsuko tells Kurata about the relationship between her and Minoru Jinguji. She tells him that she doesn’t dislike Minoru, but she never wants to marry someone so she could help the money problems her family has been having. Atsuko asks Kurata if he’d be interested in someone like her, but Kurata tells her that he doesn’t deserve to love someone or to be loved by someone.

15-year old Karin Shiraishi is a spontaneous pneumothorax and has been in a hospital in Kitami for two years. She’s been refusing to have a surgery because her father passed away from medical malpractice in the past. One day, a new resident physician, Dr. Amakasu comes to her hospital. Karin doesn’t like him very much because he appears to be a little snobby and cocky.

At Dr. Amakasu’s desk, Karin finds the same photos that Mr. “Your Fan” has sent her and she realizes she’s been exchanging emails with Dr. Amakasu all along. It doesn’t bother her at all, but in fact she’s very happy that Dr. Amakasu IS Mr. “Your Fan”. One day she sees Dr. Amakasu walking outside and she decides to follow him.

Kyoko Asahina is a college student who’s aspired to be a movie director one day. She’s currently a member of the cinema club at her college and works as a director of the club. She appears to be somewhat cold and no-nonsense kind of person. Everyone but her in the club seems enjoy making movies but Kyoko is way too uptight. She’s been stressed out about winning a better award than just an honorable mention that she’s got last year at the independent film festival.

Things seem to be back on track as Miki comes back to the shooting and apologizes to Kyoko for what she’s done. That night, Kyoko who’s in extremely good mood tries to check what they’ve shot that day, but there’s nothing on the video tape. Apparently, the people at the cinema club played a little trick on her, trying to make her cool off. Kyoko quits the club on the same day.

Suomi and Hanna grew up together and they both love to ice skate. In a snowy day, Suomi tells Hanna that your wish is guaranteed to come true if you make a wish to Diamond Dust. She makes a wish that they’ll win the gold medal one day. Hanna tells Suomi there’s only 1 gold medal but Suomi tells her that they can break it in a half so they both can share.

Shoko Saibara is the host of a radio talk-show called “Cappuccino Break”. She’s been having an affair with a man named Takeda. She doesn’t get to see Takeda as much as she wants to because he has a wife and a kid. The distance between Shoko and Takeda gets bigger and bigger, and it’s obvious that Takeda is trying to detach himself from the relationship. On Shoko’s birthday, Takeda gives her a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers. This brings up several flashbacks of them together.

“Radio Boy” is the regular listener of Shoko Saibara’s “Cappuccino Break”. He’s almost like a stalker. He follows Shoko and sends her all kinds of stuff that she mentions she likes or wants on her show. At first she was afraid that she’s been followed but she began to enjoy receiving free stuff and taking advantage of this guy. One night Takeda shows up at her apartment out of the blue and tells her he came to see her because he simply wanted to see her. But after all the heartaches, Shoko doesn’t believe his words and start telling him how she’s been feeling about the relationship they’ve been having. But Takeda’s response was basically “you always knew the deal”. Shoko tells him to get out of her apartment. Next day she breaks down in the middle of the show. “Radio Boy” rushes to the radio station and manages to break into her studio. He tells her not to quit and what it’s been like to listen to her voice. Shoko finally realizes that she’s not only talking to a microphone but actually has been touching people’s heart by listening to their problems.

Akari Harada is a high school girl who’s been taking care of the household by working after school ever since her mother passed away. Her father, Kiichi Harada, also has a job but gold digging seems to be more important to him than working a regular job. He often cause problems or getting into fights whenever he drinks at the bar, and every time he does, Akari gets called in to pick him up.

Akari’s father’s condition has got much worse and it’s too late to do anything with surgery. One day she asks the doctor if she could take her father for gold panning because that’s what he enjoys the most. Akari, her father and Kurokawa go to the river for gold panning. They have a great time there. Unfortunately Akari’s father dies later that day. A man shows up at Akari’s house one day and gives her a gift.

Suomi meet Karin and her brother on the way to skating competition that her friends, Kouta and Haruto are performing at. Atsuko is at the airport picking up her boyfriend when she meets Akari who’s working at RYUAN airport branch for training. Kyoko and her movie crews are also at the airport, waiting for the weather to clear out so they can start shooting.

Suomi’s ice skating coach, Elie picks Suomi at the airport in Finland. Suomi is so excited to see Hanna but she’s nowhere to be found. Elie tells Suomi to forget about Hanna for now if she wants to make a great comeback on the ice again. Suomi is supposed to perform at the figure skate championship that’s going to be held in Japan. Elie tells Suomi that she’s going to have the intensive training for the championship and she has to do it without Hanna.
