The newest and deadliest weapon of the future has arrived, and it’s more powerful than ever before. The next stage of human evolution, a race of “metahumans” with powerful psychic abilities, has begun to appear on Earth. These mutants, known as the “E’s”, have the ability to convert thought to energy. A special elite force of E’s has been formed to help maintain law and order, but will these powerful psychics use their abilities to save the world, or control it?

Kai Kudou awakens in a medical machine, and is escorted by Eiji Sagimiya to the AESES building where he is to train as an AESES agent. He meets Shin-Lu, Shen-Long and the rest of the group, but Shen-Long doesn't like Kai and decides to test his powers.
- 2: We Are Not Here To Destroy

Kai and the others at AESES are in the middle of training when Eiji tells them they have marching orders. As they prepare, Yuuki comes to, questions his captors, and then makes his escape, only to run into Maria and Erimiya. As Kai and the others approach Gald, Kai asks Shin-Lu about Gald, which sparks anger in Shen-Lon and sadness in Shin-Lu, because of their horrible memories of the place.
- 3: The Arrow That Has Been Loosed

Kai convinces a reluctant Ruri to let him search the town for any stragglers. He finds a little girl in the basement of a burning house, and brings her outside to safety. As he goes to get some water, the girl’s mother returns with a group of people, and they fire on Ruri, thinking she’s going to take the girl away. Kai returns to find Ruri dead, and the group attacks him as well. He reacts, causing a powerful psychic wave to devastate the nearby area.
- 4: At the Place He Washed Ashore

A girl is alerted by her animal friends that a man has washed up on the shore. She finds Kai and while trying to take him somewhere safe, feels the nightmare he's having. Kai awakens to find Yuuki and Dr. Asakura sitting near him. Asuka enters the room, shocked that Yuuki is pointing a gun at Kai. After a short discussion with Asuka, Kai decides to stay in Gald.
- 5: Magnificent Approach

Kai awakens to an unfamiliar room, and finds Asuka in the kitchen, panicking over some broken eggs. The two of them head into town to buy new eggs, and as a treat, Asuka buys ice cream as well. Back at the house, Kai finds a note telling him to meet Yuuki downstairs.
- 6: Test Site Town

Kai and Yuuki head out on an assignment. They meet with the client (who actually works for one of the corporations), who wants them to find a certain person, and then relay that person’s location to him. Thinking that they have an easy job, they go looking, but when they find him, they discover that he’s a ‘branded’ (a kind of cyborg). The branded spots them (and Asuka), and gives chase. In the end, Kai is able to stop it, but it self-destructs before they can find out more.

Kai and Yuuki head to the library, where a rare first printing of the “Purple Mask” comic is being kept. The library head asks them to safeguard the comic from a man calling himself the “Purple Mask”, who has announced that he will be stealing it that very day. After a bit of deliberation, and the appearance of the detective, Leonid, the Purple Mask appears, using psychic powers to stay one step ahead of our heroes.
- 8: The Chronicle of the Rise and Fall of Tokugawa Ramen

Taking a day off from work, Kai, Yuuki, and Asuka end up going out to eat. Asuka requests that they go to a ramen place in town, and when they get there, there is an incredibly long line. After finally getting in and trying the ramen, Yuuki declares that it’s not all that good, and that he will make even better ramen. After some trials, Yuuki and company open up a stand just outside the other ramen place.
- 9: Bewitching Soul

Leonid comes to Yuuki with a job offer – help find the ‘woman’ that he was with at the casino. Yuuki reveals that it was actually Kai, and after some deliberation, Kai ends up being dubbed ‘Josephione’. Back in the dress, Kai goes on a date with Edgar Hanson, a local arms dealer with a heart of gold. As their date goes along, he proposes, there’s confusion as to Kai’s answer, and a pair of detectives start chasing after them.

Shen-Lon discovers that Shin-Lu is no longer at the hospital, and rushes over to the lab to find her. After his arrival, he runs into Shin-Lu and Sherry, one of their new teammates. After a bit of back and forth, Kyou shows up, and starts a fight with Shen-Lon that ends up being broken up by Maxim. Maxim ends up draining Shen-Lon of his powers temporarily, and when Shin-Lu visits him to see how he’s doing, she displays habits that she hadn’t had before.

While Asuka is shopping, she hears rumors that Yuuki is planning on leaving town soon. Yuuki and Kai discuss a potential client, who has requested an escort for his time in Gald. Yuuki refuses, but Kai decides to accept and heads off to meet Dzhyuma. Dzhyuma is in town to do some research on physics and enlists Kai's help in tracking some down. Meanwhile, Yuuki looks into Dzhyuma's background and discovers why people are in Gald after Dzhyuma.

After some more discussion, plans are finalized, and Kai goes to be Dzhyuma’s guinea pig. The next morning, Dzhyuma and Asuka prepare for their date, Yuuki and Kai trail them, as planned, and watch out for the men who are targeting Dzhyuma. After some discussion about the situation, Kai and Yuuki are confronted by two psychics who are also apparently after Dzhyuma. They quickly deal with them, and the two men in black who were tailing Dzhyuma.

While Yuuki is out running errands, Asuka and Kai take a job to find a lost cat. Elsewhere, Yuuki meets with Maria and she asks about the psychic that is staying with him. He assumes she means Kai, but as they separate, a final comment, makes him reconsider, and he wonders why she would be asking about Asuka.
- 14: A Lonely Shooting Star

Shen-Long and Shin-Lu get ready for some testing and Shen-Long goes over his life with Shin-Lu and how she's changed. Back in Gald, Kai and Yuuki discuss psychics, and if they can identify each other. Back at the testing, Shen-Long is breezing through while Shin-Lu watches from the control room. Meanwhile, at a check up with Dr. Asakura, Kai's psi-level spikes and he ends up disappearing.

Kai meets Raphael and some children, who are all excited to see him. Meanwhile, Yuuki asks Leonid and Resis for help tracking down Kai, but ends up getting little help for various reasons. At the house, Asuka is doing some cleaning, hoping to surprise Kai with a tidy room once he returns. At the same time in Ashurum, Shin-Lu wonders where Shen-Long has gone, and Sherry tries to comfort her by saying he will come back eventually.

Kai heads back to the church and overhears Giberini discussing the weapon tests with some underlings. Once he leaves Giberini confronts him and spouts off some facts about Kai and invites him to join him. He refuses, but before anything happens, Raphael stumbles into the hallway. Giberini explains to Kai why the children are there. Later, Maxim attacks Kai and the damage he takes affects Hikaru at Ashurum.

Kai ponders some of the things said to him recently. Back at Ashurum, Professor Chigaya checks on Eiji, whom has been left comatose by Hikaru's powers. Kai returns to the church and is greeted by the children. The church falls under attack and they run off to stop it. Kai joins the battle in order to protect the children.

Cardinal Giberini holds a conference with his sponsors, who question him on the ability to continue testing. During the meeting, Kai arrives to speak with him. In exchange for Kai finding the Sacrament for him, he must promise to leave the children alone. Meanwhile, at Yuuki's house, Maria talks to Asuka.

Kai asks Shen-long to hold off on taking Shin-lu back to Ashurum until they know why she’s acting so strangely, but Shen-long refutes that by asking if Kai thinks that Ashurum is the reason. They teleport away, but Kyou continues his attack on Kai until Sherry tells him that they have a new mission to deal with.

Kai heads to the church to ask Giberini for a way to get to the guerilla's base. One of the guards interrupts the discussion and says than an intruder has been captured. They go to where he is being held and Kai is shocked to learn who It is. In Ashurum, Shen-Long tries to find Shin-Lu's data file, but interrupted by Hitomo Chigaya. Yuuki reveals what the Sacrament is.

Sherry continues her attack and Balk sends Maria further underground, saying to protect Asuka, no matter the cost. Meanwhile, Kai and Leonid continue their trek but something happens and makes Kai's powers go haywire. He ends up teleporting to where Yuuki is, but before he can ask why Kai is there, he teleports again. This time, he ends up teleporting to where Maxim is killing Erimiya, but Kai is unable to save her. Maria walks in just as Erimiya dies and mistakes Kai for the killer.

Sherry hands Eiji taken from Yuuki, and Kyou is frustrated with the situation. Kai and the group arrive at the house to find it in shambles. After they work hard to clean up the mess, Maria arrives and launches an attack on Kai. Shen-Long heads to Shin-Lu's room, happy to find she has returned from the lab, but quickly saddens once she changes again. In Gald, Eiji meets with Giberini, asking him for the Church's blessing, but he refuses until Eiji shows him the present he has with him.

The Guerrillas attack Ashurum, only to lose horribly. When Kai arrives, he does battle with Kyou, and manages to defeat him, but almost loses control in the process. Meanwhile, Hikaru's connection to her brother takes a turn for the worst when she tries to reach out to him and is quelled by Dr. Chigaya. Elsewhere, Ashurum begins to move into Gald to rebuild buildings according to Eiji's plan!

In an attempt to get Hikaru back from Ashurum, Kai confronts Eiji, who tells Kai about his shocking past! Meanwhile, Hitomi pays a visit to Dr. Asakura to discuss Eiji's plan.

As Kai and Shen-Lon make their escape from Ashurum, Yuuki, Asuka, and Maria are confronted by an angry Kyou! Meanwhile, Eiji's plan is put through a test run...!
- 26: The Upcoming New Era

Kai attempts to get Hikaru back and must fight Maxim and Eiji to do it. Meanwhile, Shen-Long is determined to retrieve Shin-Lu and restore her memories.
