Zed and Noah are two teenage boys who start in a world somewhat like our own, but wind up in another world where supernatural powers reign, the strange politics of antagonistic nations permeate everything, and people fight using “spirits,” or powerful magical beings who fight on their behalf through the use of “shards” (magic stones). In this other world, shards are used throughout everyday life. Only the strong have spirits, but many have shards, with which they can heal, teleport, etc

- Zed is an incorrigible delinquent, and his repeated acts of vandalism have gotten him in deep trouble with the school board. Despite his best friend Noah's attempts to defend his actions, Zed faces serious punishment at the hands of school officials or the police—whoever catches him first. While Zed's street smarts help him one step ahead of the cops, he can’t shake repeated visions of some unknown world and a mysterious angelic creature.
- 2: A New World Guest
- Transported into this new world, Zed tries to comprehend his new surroundings, and people who control giant, dragon-like creatures. To help him do that, Zed is aided by a kindly trainer Ziko and his pretty young protégé Roya. In the town of Templar, Zed is viewed as an outsider and chased by local authorities. Suddenly, Zed’s shard powers come into play, and he at last sees the angelic creature from his dreams materialize before him, saving him from a would-be assassin.
- 3: Those With Power Guest
- Zed meets shard champion Dumas and Mickey, a young shardcaster-in-training. A pompous prince named Robès also comes by to introduce himself, He invites Zed, Roya, and Mickey to a party at his estate. At the party, it is revealed that Robès will most likely enter the Joust, a tournament to determine the strongest of the shardcasters. Later, Zed stumbles upon a secret infirmary for refugees that Dumas has constructed under a flower nursery on his property.
- 4: The Wind's Resolve Guest
- While political intrigue ensues, the Joust commences with Mickey, Roya, Dumas, Robès and many others vying for the title of shard champion. Mickey is quickly eliminated from contention, but due to a technicality is reinstated for the second round. Knowing he will not win, Mickey allows Zed to enter the Joust, disguised as Mickey. This gives Zed the chance to battle Robès, which Zed is thrilled about since Zed knows Robès is masquerading as “No-Face,” the thief terrorizing the town.
- 5: A Nation of Sacred Law Guest
- Noah’s storyline, who has somehow been transported into the same world as Zed, but in a different country ruled by religious ideologues who use murderous violence to enforce their happy-sounding ideal of “Absolute Justice.” A kindly couple take Noah into their home, but trouble ensues when the couple’s son, Gale, comes to visit.
- 6: A Rushed Conclusion Guest
- Gale continues his ruthless rule over the town while Noah hooks up with a rebel faction. Before the group can retaliate, many townspeople are punished. Wild with grief, Noah unconsciously summons a powerful spirit of his own. But the spirit weakens him, and he is taken in by a desert tribe who carry a mysterious crate they call the Ark.
- 7: Awakened Feelings Guest
- After Robès defeats Zed in the Joust, Zed vows to bring down the town’s mysterious thief “No Face”, who he knows is actually Robès in disguise. Meanwhile, we venture to a joust in another country, the dark, sinister Zymot. There, three powerful shardcasters (the handsome, crafty Hugh, the beautiful and ruthless Elmeida, and the punky Glaudio have taken control of the government after dispatching the royal family.
- 8: The Traitor's Whereabouts Guest
- Someone else masquerades as No-Face, and vows to steal Zed’s powerful spirit shard. To protect him, Robès moves in with Zed, Roya, Mickey, and Dumas. The fake No-Face, however, succeeds in stealing Zed’s spirit and Robès is arrested as the thief. Over in Zymot, we see that the Big Three are keeping Princess Rebecca captive. Suddenly it all comes together—they are waiting on the spy to tell them when to attack Templar. Zed discovers Dumas is the spy, but it is too late.
- 9: Afther The Battle Guest
- The war is on. Dumas tries to turn Zed’s own spirit against him, but the spirit doesn’t obey Dumas any more than it did Zed. It goes rogue and heads into town, wreaking havoc and preventing Zymot’s invasion by killing many of its soldiers. Back in Zymot, the princess’s old servants rescue her. She sees the Zymot battle from afar, and recognizes Zed’s spirit as the famous Amir Gaul. Dumas escapes to Zymot, and Robès is sent to recover him.
- 10: The Lonely Princess Guest
- Once in Zymot, Rebecca begs Zed for help overturning their current government. She knows of his powerful spirit, and while her information is useful to him, Zed still refuses to help, instead continuing his search for Dumas. But before he can find the traitor, Zed is captured and taken to a secret training ground and imprisoned. Rebecca, rescues him, but before they can escape, Hugh arrives to kidnap her once more.
- 11: A Looming Conspiracy Guest
- Hugh holds Rebecca captive in order to kill her father, the king of Zymot, and steal his shard. With his last remaining strength, the king seals the shard within Rebecca. Hugh proposes marriage, but doesn’t tell her until later that he’s not the actual groom, the traitor Dumas is. Rebecca leaves to visit her rebel forces who tell Rebecca that her trusted aide Elda and Zed are dead. Meanwhile, Robès allows himself and Roya to be captured to gain entrance into the castle.
- 12: Progress Towards Truth Guest
- Rebecca is shocked to discover she’s not marrying Hugh, but instead the repulsive Dumas. She tries to escape once more, but Hugh keeps her hostage. Elda takes Zed to a cave where he can fight a dragon to get more power. After much battling, he receives a super-spirit power and goes to rescue Princess Rebecca. Meanwhile, Elda is already on her way to save the Princess. Elda frees Robès and Roya, but soon find themselves up against Hugh’s forces and backstabbing Phillip.
- 13: Hurtling Power Guest
- Elda, Roya, and Rebecca run off to get Zed. Back at the castle, we find out that Hugh has actually kept Rebecca’s father alive. When Rebecca finds this out, she and the others return to see the former King. Hugh reveals he’s going to have Dumas killed and marry Rebecca himself. Rebecca’s father endorses the union and, after he passes away, Hugh receives the powerful spirit he desires. Zed and Noah, now in the same area of this strange world, almost see each other, but fail to connect.
- 14: The Lure of Power Guest
- Almost penniless, Mickey receives help from Roya and Zed. Zico refuses to tell Zed the true meaning of his powerful spirit, the Amir Gaul. Meanwhile, the sages decide to form an alliance with Neotopia to protect Templar against Zymot. Elsewhere, Noah parts ways with his companions. Robès gives Mickey a memento of Dumas: his spirit shard. But the shard has a dark effect over Mickey, causing him to grow angry, attack people, and steal their spirit shards.
- 15: A Small Treasure Guest
- Mickey, possessed by Dumas’ spirit, battles Zed and Roya. When he snaps out of it, he drops the fight and runs away, scared and confused. Robès tells them that Dumas’ spirit was too strong, and broke Mickey’s psyche. Meanwhile, Noah is thinking about Zed and their friendship. While doing so, a spirit shard comes out of the Ark the nomad people were carrying and forcibly enters Noah, killing everyone in the clan except the little girl, Sagiri.
- 16: A Tragic Race Guest
- Something is happening in Kalb-Hu, the land of those enslaved and imprisoned by Zymot. Those people saved Rebecca, and now she is fighting for their sakes. She sends a messenger to get Zed and bring him to her. Zico and Sebastian forbid Roya and Zed from going, but they disobey and sneak out to help the Princess. Zico is upset about this because he’s afraid of Roya discovering the terrible truth about herself.
- 17: A Wish Unfulfilled Guest
- Rebecca overcomes the Kalb-Hu people’s resistance to fighting, and convinces them to battle Zymot. The war rages with significant casualties, and Rebecca shows herself to be even more of a changed person. When the Zymot soldiers kill the unborn children of the villagers, the women begin a siren call that awakens their god—a powerful spirit. This is what Hugh was hoping for, because he wants the spirit for his own, and Hugh and two Tuskans, Despara and Cloud, look on with great interest.
- 18: The Prayer That Will Not Fade Guest
- The Kalb-Hu god goes on a rampage, then eats Pronimo, the spirit Hugh took from Rebecca (which Hugh knew it would do), and the two combine into the perfected form of Pronimo. Now Hugh has his first key spirit. Zed challenges Hugh, using his own spirit, Amir Gaul. Meanwhile, the Tuskan woman, Despara, convulses violently when she sees Roya. Rebecca sacrifices herself for one of the villagers and dies in peace, no longer vengeful.
- 19: A Dark Land Guest
- TThough sad about Rebecca’s death, and concerned about Hugh’s reference to the “key spirits”, Zed cannot ponder either thought. The council of sages is forcing him to escort the rebel Keith back to Neotopia. But the shifting spell goes awry when Roya gets in the way, and they find themselves in Tusk. After being attacked by giant Beastmen, they learn about Tusker, the “god” of Tusk who is said to have created the world.
- 20: Reunion Guest
- Roya has been kidnapped by a Tusk tribe of Beastmen who are planning to offer her as a sacrifice. Keith and Zed set out to save her. But Hugh arrives and battles Zed. Luckily, Noah interrupts and uses his powerful spirit, which delights the evil Hugh, as Noah is in possession of yet another key spirit Hugh covets. Though Noah and Zed are happy about their reunion, it is short lived, as Zed must return to Templar.
- 21: Irrepressible Feelings Guest
- Finding a horn on her shoulder, Roya now realizes she has Tuskan blood. After she runs to Tusk to find answers, Zico tells Zed the truth about Roya and sends him to bring her back—before the evil Tuskans use her as a pawn in their murderous political game.
- 22: Maze of Memory Guest
- A powerful shardcasting teen named Ginga helps Roya when she’s surrounded by Beastmen. But he’s a bit of a flirt, so Roya leaves him and then runs into the Tuskan woman Despara, saying she’s going to “kill her again” on Moloch’s orders. Ginga comes in to save her. Then Norman, a rival of Moloch’s shows up, and offers to take them both into his care.
- 23: Bonds Guest
- There’s a big showdown between several parties, the eventual result of which is: (1) Moloch tries to kill Roya but ends up killing Despara instead (Jesara sacrificed their body to save Roya), (2) Cloud kills Moloch, (3) Jesara is able to talk to Roya and tell her she loves her, but ultimately cannot go on living with Despara dead, since they share the same body, so she dies too. Zed and Roya return to Templar.
- 24: The Yellow Shard of Happiness Guest
- Robès saves one of his own maids from a gang of extortionist moneylenders, but he doesn’t recognize her. However, the gang knows where she lives, so they go looking for money. Robès’s butler tells them he’ll give them an awesome shard that brings his bearer happiness. A bunch of maids follow him to go get it and find happiness for themselves.
- 25: Prelude to Battle Guest
- Zed has finally been summoned to Neotopia, where an international Joust is to take place. Robès will therefore be accompanying him. Neither really wants to be in the Joust, but Zed wants to see Noah and is getting impatient. Noah, of course, is a mass-murdering sociopath at the beck and call of the government at this point. Noah and Zed are happy to see each other, but Noah is different, and Zed begins to notice.
- 26: Lonely Memories Guest
- Flashback of Noah’s entire story arc to date. Ends with him concluding that his current path is the obviously correct one. He vows to win the Joust and show this path to everyone.
- 27: Warriors Guest
- Neotopia’s Joust begins with almost everyone from every country coming to compete. From Templar, Robès, Zed, and Roya. From Zymot, there is the devious Elmeida and the creepy Nudyu. From Tusk, giant Beastmen. Noah comes representing Neotopia, and he has a vicious bloodlust to defeat Zed. But there are strange newcomers from a land called Ulvarx, who seem to have powerful technology that can not only determine a spirit’s ability, but also the capacity to render the spirit useless.
- 28: Proof of Existence Guest
- Zed’s won his first round and so has Noah. Time for Roya’s battle. She’s pretty outmatched, but all of the sudden calls up a rather violent inner strength and is going to kill her opponent, until Zed snaps her out of it. She faints. The Neotopian leader Hyrum asks Zed to join Noah and fight for their Absolute Law, but Zed doesn’t like the sound of it, so he balks. Meanwhile, Roya’s mother’s spirit consoles her in a dream and gives her a healing shard. Now Roya’s peaceful and helpful and begins healing patients in the Neotopian hospital.
- 29: Friendship At Cross Purposes Guest
- Noah and Zed are facing off over the arrest of Roya. Noah feels this is an important fight which can test his own strength. Zed feels this is a fight he doesn’t have time for, so he slips away and goes after Roya. Noah vows to teach Zed a lesson by beating him in the Joust.
- 30: Showdown Guest
- Finally, the fated Joust match between Zed and Noah. Zed refuses to fight seriously because he can’t quite forget their friendship. Noah tells him he’s weak; they never had a friendship. He accuses Zed of only being friendly out of pity, and says he always hated Zed. Meanwhile, Roya is sentenced to death. Noah shares this info with Zed in order to inspire him, and Zed finally pulls out his big guns.
- 31: The Cost of Ambition Guest
- Zed awakens in the infirmary only to sense he is missing his spirit shards, while Noah is frustrated over his less-than-perfect win against Zed. After Robès defaults, Hugh, disguised as a Tuskan, beats Helic of Ulvarx. After jousting with a beastman, Elmeida fakes her own death, and Hyrum comes down to the arena to deliver last rites. She tries to kill him, but Hyrum is saved by Noah. Elmeida escapes. Noah then faces off against Hugh.
- 32: The Nation's Agenda Guest
- All is not well in Zymot. After escaping from the Joust competition, Hugh is physically drained and enraged that he was rejected by the spirit shards, taking out his anger on Nudyu. Zed and Roya have their own problems, as the ruling council of Templar has been requested to extradite them back to Neotopia. Zico intervenes, and volunteers to go beg pardon from Hyrum directly.
- 33: Lost Luster Guest
- At a café with friends, Zed falls unconscious. He may have the Amir Gaul spirit shard once more, but he cannot feel the spirit’s presence. Meanwhile, Hyrum plans a celebration for the tenth anniversary of Neotopia's founding. Noah and Kira are appointed to handle security at the event, but they argue because she is beginning to have feelings for him and he is painfully unaware of her affections, presumably because of his continued questioning of his own loyalty to Absolute Law.
- 34: War Breaks Out Guest
- Roya and Zico are infuriated to find out that Templar's ruling council will not defend Zed. Even worse, the Council moves to have Zico imprisoned to keep him from causing any trouble between Templar and Neotopia. In Neotopia, preparations continue for the Foundation Day ceremony, while elsewhere Helic tells Zed the true history and origins of Ulvarx. Noah and Kira are sent to kill Zed and the Ulvarx warriors who saved him. On their way, Noah and Kira share their personal demons.
- 35: The Ones Who Are Sacrificed Guest
- Noah and Zed temporarily join forces to battle attacking Zymot spirits. And though Noah saves Zed’s life during the fray, he is still under Hyrum’s spell. Hyrum tells Noah that he is the true savior and that Neotopia can never fall as long as Noah is on their side. Meanwhile, Helic ignores the warning of Ulvarx’s head scient and steals the fearsome spirit Ex Machina to take down Hyrum.
- 36: Wings Reborn Guest
- As war continues, Hugh slips into further murderous insanity, unaware that Helic is about to unleash the powerful Ex Machina to attack Hyrum himself. Ginga is in hot pursuit to stop Helic from using the unstable weapon of mass destruction. Zed finally finds little Sagiri, but their tender reunion is interrupted by the fearsome power of Helic’s stolen weapon.
- 37: The Fall Of The Capital Guest
- The battle against Ex Machina reaches cataclysmic proportions, as the monstrous machine gains more power by sucking the spirit energy of all of its victims. Even the three key spirits of Zed, Noah, and Hugh seem to be no match for the beast. But when the creature tries to absorb Zed’s powerful spirit, the Amir Gaul transforms and destroys the malevolent machine. Their common foe now vanquished, Hugh betrays both Noah and Zed, and continues his attack on Hyrum and Neotopia.
- 38: Endless Battle Guest
- Sebastian allows the imprisoned Zico to slip free, and the elder shardcaster immediately comes to defend Hyrum from Hugh’s murderous attack.
- 39: Epiphany Guest
- When he delivers Hyrum to Hugh in exchange for the Neotopian hostages, Zed stabs Hugh and kills him. But the body morphs into just a dead soldier. Hugh used a decoy, knowing Zed would try to kill him. Hugh captures Zed and then offers Hyrum a deal: kill the hostages and live for another few hours. Instead, Hyrum falls on his own sword. Meanwhile, Diana tries to convince Noah to run away with her and create a new country of Absolute Law.
- 40: Sought After Power Guest
- After it is revealed that Elmeida is actually a Tusk agent Xeem assigned to keep tabs on Hugh, he orders her to find Hugh’s spirit, Pronimo. And the Tuskan elders decide to go to war with Ulvarx to gain their elite technology. So when their emissary Dukeham arrives at the Ulvarx lab, Ginga rediscovers an old enemy. Zico finally tells Zed about the legend of Tusker, and says that because Zed is chosen by Amir Gaul, his decisions may affect the destiny of their entire world.
- 41: The Thought That Possessed Him Guest
- Ulvarx has already been captured. Zed, Roya, and Ginga attempt to fight off the Tuskans and capture it back. Roya is slightly injured in the process, and we see that Ginga's affection for her is largely because she looks so much like a girl he loved but was unable to save from Dukeham (their former superior) back in the day. Dukeham & Ginga have a showdown while Zed and Roya bust up the dangerous Ulvarx technology.
- 42: A Small Savior Guest
- The Seekers hold an initiation ceremony for Sagiri where she receives a key spirit. She decides to use it to go find Noah, and sneaks out of the Seekers compound. She finds her way to Templar looking for Zed and Roya. Instead, of course, the Council interrogates her about the Seekers, since they are a secretive race about which little is known—even where they live is a mystery.
- 43: Truth Made Know Guest
- Sara is overwhelmed by the power of her key spirit and runs off. Zed forces Zico to tell him the truth about what happened between them. Zico explains that he lusted after power in the uncertainty of their warring times, and had many people attempt to use Amir Gaul. AG rejected them all, and they all died. Finally the Amir Gaul statue showed them a vision of Sara, and he was sure they had found The One. He kidnapped Sara from Calm and trained her.
- 44: An Unbreakable Spell Guest
- Sara is chased off by Sagiri’s spirit and Zico tells Zed she is obsessed with Amir Gaul, and she won’t hesitate to kill him. Zed is locked up in jail after trying to go after Sara, but is soon released by Roya. He finds Sara and begs her to be his mother, with no luck. Meanwhile, the Seekers head to Templar to get Sagiri back and Xeem heads to Templar to get Amir Gaul.
- 45: The Girl Confined To The Castle Guest
- Zed is interrupted before he can give Amir Gaul to Sara, because Xeem has arrived in Templar and started to attack everyone. The Seeks arrive to disrupt things, but now Sara is missing. The various politicians in Tusk are growing grump and backstab as per usual. Zed decides to take it upon himself and stop the warring by storming Tusk and collecting the key spirits. Meanwhile, a new character appears in Tusk, claiming to possess a key spirit.
- 46: To The Land Where The Decision Will Be Made Guest
- Sagiri gives Zed her key spirit in exchange for his promise to find Noah and stop the fighting. All the Tuskans are crazy. Roya has become a nurse. Eventually Zed, Mirred, Gitra, and Dukeham are all in one place fighting. Zed wins. Largely because of this, Gitra decides he likes Zed. He leads Zed into the castle so that Zed can stalk Xeem to the accompaniment of James Bond music. The mysterious key spirit wielder appears in time to save Xeem from him, and turns out to be wielding... Sachura.
- 47: A Savior Adrift Guest
- Xeem uses the pointless Zed/Noah fight that ensues to take Shadin and Amir Gaul. Noah prattles on for a while about how without Absolute Law, he needs some kind of absolute strength to support him, and therefore has chosen to gather all the key spirits and become God.
- 48: Advent Guest
- Mirred’s life expectancy faces danger when she aquires Tusker. Now Zed, Gitra, and Noah must figure out how to save Mirred and their spirits. Gitra tells Zed the reason Xeem wants to revive Tusker.
- 49: Mother and Child Guest
- The Templar Council hears of a great energy released in Tusk, and Zico and Roya go to check it out. They find Zed and he explains the situation to them. Sara is in the area and Zed tries to get through to her once more. She’s terribly weakened, and he begs her to give up on Amir Gaul.
- 50: An Eternal Bond Guest
- Noah and Zed battle, and Noah defeats Zed, and wins the Amir Gaul key spirit. Now that he has all six, he thinks he has become the true savior who will control Tusker. After a few minutes, he begins to vomit and out come Tusker! He announces that he is about to fully awaken and he will destroy the world. Zed attempts to shake Tusker out of Noah and Noah says that Zed needs to kill him because he is took weak to overtake Tusker.
- 51: To Where The Wind Blows Guest
- Tusker summons himself, and then Amir Gaul sucks Zed INTO Tusker. Now Tusker is complete. He orders all the spirits of the world to come to his aid, and help him destroy this world humans have built, and build in its place a world of spirits only. The spirits heed the call, and begin wreaking havoc everywhere. Can Zed, Zico, Roya and Noah stop this?
